Stocks close lower after Fed hikes rates, upgrades economic outlook
Stocks closed lower but hit session highs shortly after the Fed made its monetary-policy announcement.
The Fed raised overnight rates by 25 basis points, in line with market expectations. Central bank officials also raised their GDP forecast and increased their 2019 expectations for the Fed funds rate.
Chair Jerome Powell "delivered what the market was expecting, albeit with a more hawkish tone," notes one economist.
